James, age 12, is one of our newest addition to The Hope Centre. He came in 2019 with his older sister, Regina, 14. The two had been staying at their grandmother’s house before coming to The Hope Centre — three other children also stayed there — probably their cousins. After a visit from THC social worker and dorm mother, Veroline, it was determined that James and Regina should come to stay at The Hope Centre to alleviate some of the financial pressure their grandmother was facing with so many children to provide for. James and his sister will still visit their Shosho (grandmother) on school holidays. James loves to sweep the house and move the cattle out for morning grazing — while Regina will mop floors and fetch water from the well. — James says that there are so many great things about The Hope Centre — like how school fees have been covered for both he and his sister, they’ve received food, and they now have a comfortable place to sleep. Life is better now with all basic needs met — down to his school uniform and new shoes. James loves attending church across the road from THC with his best friends Seth and Dominic. James loves school too! His favorite subjects are Kiswahili and English. Although James is only in Class 4, he already has some very big dreams for the future. After he finishes secondary school, James hopes to attend Kenyatta University in Nairobi to study Mechanical Engineering and become a shop mechanic.
